On August 2, 2012 a Union Electric Steel supervisor suffered a cardiac arrest at the plant located in Valparaiso Indiana. Jason Jerz, a 15 year member of IAM Local 1227, helped save the supervisors life by starting C.P.R., activating the E.M.S. system and applying the Automatic Electronic Defibulator (AED).
